Last weekend I had the privilege of attending my first Creation Ministries International (CMI) conference. Those of you who attended Lifegroup Week 9: No Compromise will recognize Richard and Calvin from the video we watched, ‘Things to Think About as a Theistic Evolutionist’. That video was an episode of Creation Magazine Live, that the two host on a regular basis. I encourage you to check out the many other great episodes at www.creation.com/creation-tv.
Calvin kicked off the conference Friday night with a session called, ‘Genesis; The Missing Piece of the Puzzle’. The session gave a great overview of the impact that evolutionary teaching has had on the church and our society, and the importance of getting back to the authority of the Word of God. The talk was quite entertaining at times, but there was certainly no mistaking Calvin’s passion for what he showed is a very serious issue for the church today. Diving deeper on Saturday, Calvin talked about the amazing and complex information system embedded into every living organism and showed how it would be virtually impossible for these systems to develop on their own by chance.
Richard continued where Calvin left off, with a session Saturday afternoon showing how the biological changes we observe through natural selection and mutations are fully supported by the Biblical account of creation and actually oppose the widely accepted theory of molecules-to-man evolution. Richard has a way of presenting concepts in a very simple and understandable way, which I appreciated in his opening session for the day as he explained the result of Noah’s flood on the geology that we see today.
Calvin and Richard’s talks were backed up by plenty of science for most people. but lest there be any doubt, Dr. Jim Mason presented very scientific sessions on radiometric dating and the distant starlight dilemma. As a doctor of experimental nuclear physics, Jim got into details that would satisfy even the most scientific skeptics, but for the rest of us, it’s just nice to know that science fully supports the Biblical account of creation and a universe that is only about 6,000 years old.
Just in case the musings of one Ph.D scientist were not enough, on Sunday night we were treated to a screening of Evolution’s Achilles’ Heels, a documentary authored by 9 Ph.D scientists. For those of you that missed the conference, fear not! You can get literally thousands of resources from CMI’s website, including the documentary. So, any time you have a question about creation, evolution, or science and the Bible, just head over to www.creation.com and you are sure to find the answer.
